Activism
Unpaid Hacktivist for Individual Liberty, Civil Rights, & Social Justice
Hein Htet Kyaw is the Director of Australasia at Atheist Alliance International, an international advocacy group with special consultative status at the United Nations, the Regional Coordinator for Australia at Students for Liberty, and currently a spokesperson of Burmese Atheists.
Hein Htet Kyaw is a working-class activist who is actively struggling against the state sponsored blasphemy laws and intersectional oppressions in Burma. He is deeply involved in Burmese Buddhist religious reformist movements and Burmese Islamic reformist movements. He has initiated several direct action projects against state sponsored blasphemy laws in Burma. Hein considers himself a political atheist, whose position is one of secularism and preventing religious privilege from dominating shared public spaces (laws, government, schools, and institutions). He takes an interest in human rights, social justice, labour rights, and secularism.

My Activism Portfolio
- Co-founded a Myanmar hacktivist group in 2013.
- Took part in the student led protests against “Myanmar National Education Law 2014”.
- Took part in the nationwide movement of “Black Ribbon Movement” as a student from University of Dental Medicine. It was a movement of medical professions and medical students against the appointment of military officers to positions within the Ministry of Health in Burma.
- Co-founded a Pro-Immigration and Islamist hacktivist group.
- worked closely with Burma’s interfaith movement (progressive Buddhists, Ahmadiyya community, and Shias) until 2016.
- Started writing as an independent contributing author on the topics of open-source technologies, and cypherpunk (Techno-libertarianism) movements in “UG Magazine”, published by Union of Underground Myanmar Hackers (UGMH).
- Became an admin on several Facebook groups with tens of thousands of members which are organized by “Burmese Atheists”.
- Direct Action against the blasphemy laws and censorship laws in Myanmar against the Buddhist religious movements.
- I prepared the statement on behalf of “Burmese Atheists”, condemning the 2021 military coup in 2022 and the statement was featured at UN Human Rights Council, 49th Session.
- Another statement of mine under “Burmese Atheists” was featured at the 25th Meeting – 56th Regular Session of UN Human Rights Council regarding the war crimes committed by Arakan Army against the Rohingya.
- I prepared the statement on behalf of “Burmese Atheists”, condemning the 2025 Sham election of Myanmar military junta at UN Human Rights Council, 60th Session.
- Fundraising for Humanitarian Aids for people in Burma.
- Writing articles as a public intellectual or a grassroot activist.
